how do people punish those who had commited treason?

what is an act of treason? according to dictionary.com, an act of treason refers to the betrayal of a trust or confidence; breach of faith; treachery. although it refers more to the act of disloyalty towards one's sovereign, nonetheless, it also signals how one has committed a betrayal of confidence.

where was i. yes, how do people punish these people?? High treason was deemed greater than any other offence, and was often subject to extraordinary punishment, because it threatened the security of the state. A particularly horrific manner of execution known as hanging, drawing and quartering was often employed. Today the maximum punishment is life imprisonment. The last treason trial was in 1946.

how will you punish people who has crushed your betrayal and trust? are they worth the life imprisonment in reality?

p/s: i think i'm really weird. i'm researching on betrayal and listening to my canon in d cd.
